Job description

DESCRIPTION
MedNOW Clinics is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized Medical Assistant to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
You will work closely with providers, Front Desk staff, and clinic leadership to prepare patients for their visits, complete approved clinical tasks, maintain accurate documentation, and make sure important follow-up needs are not missed.
What You Will Do
  • Welcome patients and help them feel informed, supported, and safe.
  • Use two patient identifiers and protect patient privacy throughout the visit.
  • Room patients and obtain an accurate chief concern, vital signs, medication list, allergies, and required screenings.
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for provider visits and procedures.
  • Document patient information and completed tasks accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Promptly report concerning vital signs, symptoms, or changes in condition to the appropriate licensed clinician.
  • Perform approved clinical tasks such as specimen collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, injections, or other procedures after documented training and competency verification.
  • Administer medications or injections only when there is an appropriate order, documented delegation, and verified competency.
  • Label and handle specimens using required patient identifiers and safety procedures.
  • Follow hand hygiene, PPE, sharps-safety, sterilization, disinfection, and infection-prevention requirements.
  • Route patient calls and messages according to protocol without providing medical advice outside the MA role.
  • Help coordinate laboratory work, referrals, orders, follow-up appointments, preventive-care needs, and patient outreach.
  • Support patient access and clinic flow while maintaining safety and accuracy.
  • Maintain clean, prepared, and properly stocked exam rooms.
  • Monitor supplies, medications, and equipment for availability and expiration dates.
  • Communicate respectfully with patients, providers, Front Desk staff, and other departments.
  • Stop and ask for guidance when a task is unfamiliar, outside the MA role, or has not been approved or verified.
  • Participate in required training, competency validation, and performance reviews.

What We Are Looking For
Required Qualifications:
  • Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain it before the first day of work.
  • Basic knowledge of patient rooming, vital signs, infection prevention, and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to recognize concerning findings and promptly notify a licensed clinician.
  • Understanding of Medical Assistant scope limitations and when to stop and ask for help.
  • Strong organization, accuracy, communication, and follow-through.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and follow HIPAA requirements.
  • Comfort working in a busy outpatient clinic.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work onsite for the posted schedule.
  • Willingness to complete MedNOW training and competency verification before independently performing assigned clinical tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent Medical Assistant credential.
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant training program.
  • At least one year of outpatient Medical Assistant experience.
  • Experience with Athenahealth or another electronic health record system.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, injections, point-of-care testing, EKGs, referrals, and clinical work queues.
  • Experience in primary care or an outpatient specialty setting.

Certain clinic assignments or specialty services may require additional credentials, training, or competency verification.
