Job description

Responsibilities include developing analyses that support broad-based and executive compensation programs, including financial analysis, shareholder value considerations, labor market insights, and compensation market trends.

This position also provides support for the Long-Term Incentive Program (LTI) administration and assists with the preparation of materials for the Compensation and Talent Development Committee ("Compensation Committee") of the Southern Company Board of Directors.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance of the Performance Pay Program (PPP) calculation model.

  • Assist with tracking and reporting financial and operational goal performance.

  • Develop scenario analyses and assess financial plan implications.

  • Support the preparation of monthly accruals and annual budget projections. 

  • Assist with preparation of goal performance updates for Southern executives and the Board of Directors.

  • Provide analysis to support the development of operational and financial goals.

  • Support documentation of controls designed to validate the accuracy of year-end results.

  • Assist with coordination of executive approval of financial and operational goal results.

Additional Support Responsibilities

  • Support the development of analysis and presentation materials for the Compensation Committee.

  • Assist with the preparation of compensation-related disclosures in the annual proxy statement.

  • Support administration activities related to the stock-based compensation for the LTI program.

  • Assist with the preparation of annual Total Rewards Statements for executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field required.

  • 2 + years in an analytical role (compensation, finance, accounting, internal audit, etc.)  required.

  • Must have strong MS Excel and PowerPoint experience.

  • Strong analytical skills, including financial modeling, data analysis, and executive-level presentation development.

  • Demonstrates problem-solving capabilities.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively communicate across a variety of audiences.

  • Takes initiative and demonstrates accountability for work quality and outcomes.
