Position Summary: ISDenver is seeking substitute teachers to add to its list who can provide short and potentially longer term cover for ISDenver teachers when they are absent for one or more days. ISDenver short term substitute teachers provide subject guidance to any class or group of students based on substitute teaching plans provided by the regular teacher ensuring their holistic developmental needs are met - personal, social, emotional, and academic. Long term substitute teachers may be required to create their own teaching plans for the classroom with the assistance of ISDenver.

  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment, ensuring that students stay on task and follow the established rules.
  • Lesson Delivery: Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring that educational objectives are met and students continue their learning progress.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible and able to adapt quickly to different grade levels, subjects, and school environments.
  • Attendance and Record Keeping: Take attendance and report any relevant information to the school office. Keep records of daily activities and student behavior.
  • Communication: Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a smooth transition for students when the regular teacher is absent. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administrators.
  • Supervision: Oversee students during various activities, such as lunch, recess, and class changes.
  • Follow School Policies: Adhere to school policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and safety measures.
  • Professionalism: Exhibit a professional attitude and maintain confidentiality regarding students and school-related matters.
  • Subject Knowledge: Have a general understanding of various subjects and grade levels to effectively support student learning.
  • Problem Solving: Handle unexpected situations and behavioral issues with composure, implementing appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.

  • English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
    • Level B2 required, C1+ preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS.
  • Native (or near native/fluent) in the target teaching language as required (Spanish/French/Chinese) with excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in age and developmentally appropriate teaching methods (required)

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel.

Location and Schedule: This is a part-time, hourly, as needed position with limited benefits. Expected work hours on working days are 7:45am-3:45pm, M-F; you may have to work outside of these hours periodically. This job does not have remote work flexibility. All employees must be based in Denver, CO.

  • Substitute teachers qualify for 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked
  • Free daily lunch when working
  • $10/bonus bonus for 30 or more days worked in a school year, including on the first 30 days.
