Job description

Position Summary

The Company Driver (Class 1/A) is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation of asphalt and related liquid products to customer and company locations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining operational excellence by ensuring timely deliveries, proper handling of materials, and adherence to all safety, regulatory, and company standards.

The Driver is accountable for the operation, inspection, and care of assigned equipment, as well as accurate completion of all required documentation.

Reporting Structure
The Company Driver position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport asphalt and related products in accordance with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform loading and unloading of liquid products, ensuring all procedures are followed to maintain product integrity and safety.
  • Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of equipment; identify and report defects and ensure equipment remains in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date driver logs and comply with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Ensure proper completion and management of all required documentation, including bills of lading, delivery tickets, inspection reports, and regulatory records.
  • Apply appropriate hazardous materials placarding and ensure compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Follow established emergency response procedures in the event of incidents, spills, or accidents.
  • Perform tanker rinsing and product changeover procedures as required.
  • Maintain professional communication with dispatch, customers, and internal teams to ensure efficient operations.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner while interacting with customers and the public.
  • Support operational needs, including flexible scheduling, extended hours, and travel as required.
Qualifications
  • Valid Class 1 / A commercial driver’s license.
  • Clean driver’s abstract and demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Experience operating tanker equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable transportation regulations, including Hours of Service, cargo securement, and TDG requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and safety.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Eligibility to cross the Canada–U.S. border and ability to obtain and maintain a FAST card (if required).
