Radiology Extern PRN

  • Work environment: Radiology Diagnostic
  • Work hours: PRN Variable Shifts including evenings and weekends

Here's What You Need
Education
H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required And
Other Currently enrolled in a nationally Accredited Educational Program in Radiology i.e., JRCERT Required And
Other Have successfully completed (1) one semester in a nationally Accredited Educational Program in Radiology i.e., JRCERT Required
Licenses and Certifications
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support Prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
Skills
Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
What You Will Do
CARE OF PATIENT/TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Prepares room for examination (i.e. suction, oxygen, supplies) to ensure radiology suite is in working order and ready to use to reduce patient risk.
Obtains patient history and determines appropriateness of exam in consultation/collaboration with Radiographer
Greets and acknowledges patient, using two forms of ID to identify correct patient and exam by checking DOB and ID number; verifying accuracy of exam and relevant clinical information.
Appropriately handles patients with IVs, oxygen, chest tubes or other devices.
Uses proper body mechanics when assisting patient and limited mobility devices.( i.e. wheelchair, stretcher, body braces)
Creates CDs for patient exams to provide accurate patient information.
Collects proper dosages of imaging contrast media (medication) under the direction of the Radiographer.
Cleans hands by washing or disinfecting to ensure the safety of patient and staff.
Utilizes assistance of a language interpreter as needed.
Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently under the direct supervision of the Radiographer
Documents accurately and appropriately necessary information in the EMR or RIS
In collaboration/consultation with the Radiographer, adapts care to reflect patient population.
Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs
Assists patients with toileting.
Stocks supplies
PARTNERSHIPS:
Maintains skills and technology advancement to enhance professional contributions to department.
Flexible with schedules and workload assignments in order to facilitate quality patient care and the needs of the department.
Makes new team members feel welcome and offers assistance with orientation of new externs
Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills and communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines and other customers.
Organizes workload and effectively collaborates with radiology team to prioritize care.
WORKPLACE/PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Maintains and enhances patient care skills.
Seeks assistance and supervision when performing unfamiliar tasks.
Serves as a patient advocate.
Complies with personnel policies. (Attendance, ID badge, Dress Code)
Communicates per department expectations.
Recognizes and promptly communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
QUALITY AND SAFETY:
Assists in the identification of ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve them.
Participates in the process improvement activities within the department/hospital.
