Job Summary
This position is designed to support our commuter student population. The position will staff the commuter student lounge in Franz Hall and coordinate community building events for commuters.
Core Duties
  • Provide information and resources to Commuter students by serving office hours in the Commuter Student Lounge, greeting and welcoming students who use the space and providing healthy ways for commuter students to get to know each other
  • Help connect commuter students to our campus community through referrals (e.g., Clubs and Organizations for campus involvement, Campus Ministry for pastoral care, Counseling Center for mental health services, and the Wellness Center for self care support).
  • Plan and implement various social and informational Commuter Student Events throughout the school year
  • Role model healthy and appropriate behaviors for new and returning commuter students in their transition to the University environment, interacting positively with them in various ways (in person, email, Zoom/Teams, perhaps Discord, etc.) during work hours
  • Post to social media on behalf of the University (such as the Student Activities Instagram account), and viewable social media content should be appropriate for all audiences
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Innovation minor design & research team (disseminate surveys, collect data, etc.)
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Available to serve in the commuter student lounge 10-12 hours per week
  • Available to attend planned social and informational activities for commuter students as assigned approximately 1-3 hours per week
  • Available for weekly check-ins with supervisor in person or online
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to learn Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Canva
  • Familiarity with Instagram and ability to learn to design creative and attractive social media posts
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Effective multitasker, with the ability to be organized and flexible
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with coworkers
  • Capable of handling customer service questions and concerns in a calm and positive manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person and in writing
  • Ability to motivate a group of peers
  • Preferred: Full-time undergraduate student who is/was a first-year commuter student
