Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Manager, Physical Security Bank Security Officer to join our team! Highly qualified candidates will have previous experience in financial bank security and physical risk assessments. This position will provide oversight and management to Bank Security Officers as assigned, specializing in Physical Security. Implement and administer all aspects of the bank’s Security Program, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

As part of this role you will:

  • Manage staff, includes interview, hire, train and mentor, evaluate performance, recommend salary adjustments and career changes, recommend disciplinary counseling and terminations. Oversee the same activities for subordinate departments.
  • Implement and administer all segments of the Bank Security Program and its supporting policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit Security Program evaluation and compliance report to the Director, Bank Protection at least quarterly.
  • Serve as regional contact for security related questions and work with Regional Presidents, Market Leaders, and applicable Commercial Management, on matters that impact their line of authority.
  • Ensure appropriate security training programs are provided to employees such as security and safety training presentations and exercises including material presented to employees during the new hire orientation process.
  • Work with the institution’s legal representative and department leaders as needed to:
    • Ensure that employees, customers, facilities, assets, records and proprietary information are protected.
    • Design security components for operations and other strategic processes, and manage the development and implementation of required security reporting devices and processes at all levels.
    • Assist in the continual development of loss control and anti-compromise measure to protect general assets, proprietary information and processes.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of investigative practices and standards.
  • Assist Information Security as needed with incident response. Manage retail Business Continuity Plans, ensuring call trees are kept up-to date.
  • Monitor branch security activities and concerns, ensure routine testing, DVR, and entrance/exit to facility testing is performed, and ensure security and surveillance systems are operational and properly maintained.
  • Implement, monitor and update evacuation facility maps for all Bank locations and coordinate fire drills at all bank facilities.
  • Assist in the investigation of suspected internal and external criminal violations including fraud, counterfeiting, suspicious incident and policy violations that may become security issues to help mitigate risk and minimize loss to the bank and proceed with legal/civic actions if necessary in an
    attempt to recover directly (by phone and letter). Develop working relationships and assist law enforcement agencies and/or auditors with inquiries.
  • Directly handle issues related to robberies, bomb threats, fires, accidents, or other related security, safety or business disruption issues. Act as a liaison between Bank personnel and state/federal law enforcement authorities.
  • Create and retain all physical security incidents and Security Program operations.
  • Be the point of contact for Physical Security issues.
  • Attend court hearings and answer subpoenas as directed.
  • Continually review processes/procedures of Bank Security Officer staff to ensure that time and resources are managed and that a balance risk posture is maintained.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • Associate degree in business, management or a related field OR an additional two (2) years of related work/military experience.
  • Over three (3) years of retail, operations, information technology, security, compliance bank functions or related security experience.

The following would be a plus:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or a related field.
