Duties

Electrical Engineer supporting Utility-Scale Solar Proposals/Projects. Performs detailed calculations using Excel according to national electric codes and other industry standards to accurately design solar projects. Completes technical equipment specifications for large scale solar projects. Knowledge in electrical equipment includes but not limited to: MV and LV switchgear, pad mount transformer, Transformer GSU, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverter, battery, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, dead front disconnect switch, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, fiber optic cable. Reviews customer requirements and provides technical inputs towards design decisions for large solar projects. Performs engineering functions requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles. This level builds on experience gained as Engineer 1 by either obtaining more depth in specific subject area with the expectation that assignments are larger and more complex, or by gaining experience in more subject areas. Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures. Then applies these documents to assigned tasks as appropriate. Prepares and verifies less complex engineering deliverables. Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work. Prepares complex engineering calculations such as: load flow, short circuit and reactive capability analysis (ETAP or SKM), Arc Flash Analysis (ETAP), Cable Ampacity study (Cymcap or equivalent), grounding analysis, AC-DC voltage drop calculations, Voc/Isc calcs, AC/DC Cable Sizing, engineering calculations including ampacity and voltage drop, conductor sizing, thermal and power system analysis following standard methods and principles. Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Coordinate with project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination. Coordinates with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership. Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers. May provide support to business development or and lead pursuit activities. Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes. No hire/fire authority. Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require employer sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H-1B visa, TN visa or any other non-immigrant status).

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related, and 1 year of related work experience. Experience with interpreting and applying electrical design criteria under established engineering procedures. Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation. Experience with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel. Experience with Electrical Solar equipment including Solar panels, Pad mounted transformer, Main power transformer, inverter, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, and fiber optic cable. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. Up to 10% national travel. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
