Job description

The Floating Early Childhood Director is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of our Early Childhood Programs at multiple locations throughout the Washington, DC area.


We are looking for a Director qualified candidate that can provide leadership for staff, and has the ability to develop program operating procedures and standards, risk management policies, while ensuring financial sustainability. The Floating Early Childhood Director will work in collaboration throughout all departments of the organization to ensure consistent implementation of the mission and high quality programming in all areas according to Reggio's Treehouse standards and goals.


Location and Travel Requirements:

This position is fully on-site and is not eligible for remote work.

The ideal candidate must be available for daily travel to our Washington, D.C. schools.


Core Requirements:


  • Bachelors in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration or a related field required.
  • Masters in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration or related field with credits in administration, leadership, and management or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience at director level or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated leadership in early childhood education including support and development of early childhood curriculum
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal, coaching and listening skills with the ability to communicate within all levels of the organization
  • · A strong desire to create a community within the school’s staff and families
  • The ability to mentor and inspire teaching staff


Responsibilities Include:


  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Center, including determination of all schedules and assignment of preschool staff responsibilities
  • Understanding and complying with state & local child care licensing regulations
  • Demonstrating highly effective organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Supervise general condition and upkeep of the school and grounds
  • The ability to communicate the program’s philosophy and promote a positive public image to staff and current & prospective families.
  • Ability to work off site in promoting the school at preschool fairs and community events
  • Establish and maintain a strong collaborative relationship with staff and families
  • Communicate with all elements of the school community (parents, teachers and administrative staff)
  • Assist with the development of a curriculum to meet the needs of children
  • Staff management, including oversight of hiring, training and supervision of preschool staff
  • Assist the staff in the creation of a Reggio inspired environment
  • Guide the staff in administering, planning and evaluating lesson plans and long-term projects
  • Train and supervise preschool staff by holding regular meeting, mediating minor disagreements and assisting in the classroom when necessary
  • Conduct staff evaluations and provide coaching for improvement
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Understanding of child development principals and developmentally appropriate practices,
  • Manages, directs and coordinates RTH Schools when the School Director is absent, on leave or in an interim role in the event of staff turnover.
  • Other duties as assigned.
