About the Role:

At the YMCA of Northern Alberta, we’re committed to the values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. Our Volunteers help us bring these values to life by creating a welcoming, helpful, and inclusive environment for all members of our community - including youth, families, and newcomers to the province. Volunteers support in variety of tasks including helping with the community events, Family Support booths, recreational nights, Youth Transition Program fun events, and contributing to other important initiatives that support our mission. Our volunteers will be supervised by and require ongoing communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and/or Supervisors on site.

Responsibilities:

  • Role model and create positive interactions with youth and families.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with members of our community.
  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming space by following YMCA policies.
  • Assist with interpretation and translation to English, if needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers on organizing group sessions, special events etc.
  • Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator regarding any situations during your shift.
  • Report any safety or facility concerns to YMCA staff during your shift.
  • Supervise youth during programming, manage behavior in accordance with YMCA policies.
  • Ensure all program documentation is completed accurately.

  • Flexible availability.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Friendly, approachable personality and a willingness to help.
  • Clear communication and active listening skills.
  • Additional languages are an asset.
  • Calm, positive presence during busy periods.
