Meritus Health is seeking a dedicated and dynamic physician leader to serve as the Associate Program Director (APD) for a new Emergency Medicine Residency Program. This is an exciting opportunity to help build and shape a residency program within a rapidly expanding academic health system and a newly established osteopathic medical school.

About the Opportunity

Meritus Health is evolving into a regional academic medical center with a growing portfolio of ACGME-accredited residency programs and the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. As part of this continued expansion, the development of an Emergency Medicine residency represents a key addition to an actively growing graduate medical education enterprise, aligned with the health system's mission to meet community and regional workforce needs. The Associate Program Director will work closely with the Program Director to support the development, implementation, and ongoing success of the residency program while contributing to the broader academic mission of the institution.

Position Overview

  • Support the development, ACGME accreditation, and implementation of a new Emergency Medicine Residency Program

  • Assist in building a program grounded in clinical excellence, innovation, and community-focused care

  • Provide leadership in curriculum development, resident education, and program evaluation

  • Serve as a key educator and mentor for residents and medical students

  • Administrative and clinical responsibilities will be structured to support both program development and clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Director with preparation and submission of ACGME accreditation materials

  • Participate in curriculum design, implementation, and continuous improvement

  • Supervise, teach, and mentor residents in clinical and didactic settings

  • Contribute to resident evaluation, feedback, and milestone assessment processes

  • Support recruitment, selection, and onboarding of residents

  • Ensure compliance with ACGME and institutional policies

  • Participate in scholarly activity, quality improvement, and program innovation

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree with eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Maryland

  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine by ABEM or AOBEM

  • Demonstrated commitment to medical education and resident teaching

  • Prior experience in graduate medical education (core faculty, assistant/associate program director, or similar role) preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Interest in curriculum development, mentorship, and academic medicine
