Job description

Qualifications:   

  • Certification required. This may be obtained by either: holding certification to teach in WV and assigned teacher in the Summers County School System, or employed as a substitute or be certified through ACEP Coaching Program and hold certification to coach through the WVDE.
  • Criminal Background Check conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-G-4
  • Drug Test conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-H-1 

Term:  During the term of the season from the first day of official practice until the end of the season due to elimination from competition or the last possible contest 

Responsible to:  Head Coaches are evaluated and responsible to the principal or designee.  Assistant Coaches work under the direction and supervision of the Head Coach and are evaluated by the principal or designee. 

Salary:  in accordance with the salary scale approved by the Summers County Board of Education 

Job Description:   

Definition: A person employed to provide instruction or direction of members of athletic teams, individually or as a group, for the purpose of developing ability or skill to perform in athletic contests.  

Head Coaches are responsible for leading in these objectives for their respective program.  

Assistant Coaches are to assist the Head Coach in implementing these duties and are under the direction of the Head Coach.  

Responsibilities:  

  1. Implements extracurricular program
  2. Fosters a climate conducive to participation
  3. Utilizes coaching techniques which increase student skill and maximizes time on tasks.
  4. Monitors student progress toward athletic achievements
  5. Maintains and upgrades coaching skills
  6. Promotes and maintains positive player-teacher-parent relationships
  7. Maintains professional work habits  

Duties:  

  1. Organize and carry out an athletic program that will promote team and school pride.
  2. Accept the responsibility for the welfare of the students under the coach's supervision.
  3. Work with school staff including but not limited to teachers and administrators to help student athletes exhibit high academic achievement and positive behavior.
  4. Communicated to athletes the necessity of good citizenship in the community.
  5. Be aware of a coach's responsibility in the area of public relations.
  6. Carry out duties of a coach under the direction of the principal.
  7. Abide by the league, county, state and federal rules and regulations.
  8. Accept the responsibility for the behavior and welfare of his team and staff; before, during and after practice and a contest.
  9. Accept responsibility for the retention and care of equipment.
