Community Garden Program Coordinator Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Urban Tilth is seeking a part-time Greenway Universally Accessible Garden Site Supervisor to support the development, delivery, and coordination of ADA programming and daily care of an accessible community garden space along the Greenway. This role is responsible for planning and delivering programs that make the Universally Accessible Community Garden welcoming, safe, inclusive, and accessible for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The Garden Manager works closely with seniors, disabled volunteers, community members, schools, partner organizations, and city staff to care for garden spaces, coordinate programming, and strengthen community connection and stewardship

• Oversee the maintenance and care for the Universally Accessible Community Garden, including garden beds, pathways, seating areas, and gathering spaces.
• Plan and coordinate seasonal planting, watering schedules, composting, mulching, and harvesting activities.
• Monitor garden safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and tool organization
• Identify repair and maintenance needs and coordinate improvements with staff, volunteers, and partners.
• Welcome volunteers, residents, youth groups, and visitors to the garden.
• Lead volunteer workdays, stewardship activities, and community engagement efforts.
• Provide basic gardening education and support to participants of varying experience levels and accessibility needs.
• Build positive relationships with neighbors, community partners, and local organizations.
• Encourage inclusive participation for seniors, families, youth, and people with disabilities.
• Support workshops, educational programming, community activities, and special events.
• Help develop accessible educational programming related to gardening, food justice, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
• Advocate for accessibility improvements and inclusive garden design practices.
• Promote a respectful, welcoming, and community-centered environment.
• Track volunteer participation, garden activities, and program outcomes.
• Manage supply inventory, material organization, and basic budget tracking.
• Document garden progress through photos, reports, and community updates and upload to Dropbox.
• Complete monthly communications impact post for social media
• Support outreach, communications, and grant reporting efforts as requested.
• Support organizational and program-level fundraising efforts
• Support and participate in all staff work days, special annual events, training, and annual board and staff retreats.
• Accurate, complete, and timely submission of daily Time sheets
• Attend mandatory Urban Tilth monthly all-staff meetings, all-staff events, and annual all-staff strategic planning retreats.

• Min of 2+ years experience in community gardening and urban agriculture, landscaping, environmental education, or related fields.
• Min of 3-5 years experience working with seniors, disabled community members, volunteers, or community-based programs.
• Passion for community engagement, accessibility, environmental justice, and food sovereignty.
• Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
• Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to perform physical garden work, including lifting materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Knowledge of ADA accessibility practices is a plus
• Bilingual skills
• Driver’s license and clean driving record
• Experience working in Richmond or other similar majority BIPOC low-income communities
• Problem-solving and adaptability

Outdoor work environment with regular physical activity. May include evenings or weekends to support coordination of community events and meetings. Collaborative work with staff, volunteers, schools, and local organizations.

• Hourly position: $28/hr
• Paid holidays and sick leave at 50% FTE
• Access to monthly wellness fund
• 50% FTE position (20 hours per week); position may grow over time
• Some weekends, evenings, and holidays required
