Location: Utah (in person within your local community + remote work)

Hours: Part-time (~10 hrs/week September-May)

Pay: $18/hour + gas reimbursement for work-related travel

Position Overview

We're hiring part-time Community Engagement Interns to help recruit Utah families for our UPSTART Early Learning Program. As an intern, you’ll be a vital connector between Waterford and your local community—spreading awareness, building relationships, and helping families access free educational resources.

This role is ideal for Utah-based college students who are:

Key Responsibilities
  • Assigned Coverage Area: This position is responsible for outreach and community engagement in: Central Utah: Juab, Millard, Sanpete, Carbon, Sevier, Piute, Beaver Counties.
  • Community Research: Identify neighborhoods and locations where young families live and gather
  • Local Outreach: Distribute flyers, visit community hubs, and talk to families about Waterford’s programs
  • Event Support: Represent Waterford at local events, host booths, and assist with program registration
  • Relationship Building: Collaborate with Waterford staff and local organizations to strengthen community ties
  • Activity Planning: Help organize small community events like family nights, craft hours, and reading circles
  • Communication & Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with the Waterford team by attending weekly check-in meetings, checking messages daily, and responding to emails and other communications in a timely manner.
  • Travel: Travel extensively within the assigned region to conduct outreach, attend events, and build relationships with community partners.
  • Various administrative, event, and program recruitment tasks
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a Utah college or university
  • Studying Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Communications, Social Science, or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must reside in the Northern Utah: Box Elder, Cache, Rich, Weber, Davis,  Morgan area of Utah
    • To ensure broad statewide coverage, Waterford hires interns from a variety of geographic regions, allowing us to effectively serve both rural communities and more populated areas.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel frequently are required
  • Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply

We anticipate this full-time, salaried position will pay $18.00 per year hour depending on the education, experience and skill level of the individual we hire.
