Job description

Lumos & Associates is seeking a motivated Civil Project Designer to join our Reno office and support a growing portfolio of civil engineering projects across Northern Nevada.

This position will support the planning and design of a wide range of civil engineering projects. This role is ideal for someone who is working toward professional licensure (P.E.) and is eager to grow their technical expertise while contributing to meaningful, community-focused work.

The Civil Project Designer will support project teams across multiple disciplines, contributing to the design of infrastructure including roadways, utilities, and site development. This role blends technical production, field exposure, and collaborative problem-solving, offering the opportunity to develop both design and construction knowledge.

This role supports the development of a strong foundation in civil engineering design within a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of engineering drawings and plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Assist with planning and analysis efforts using GIS and other design tools to support project development.
  • Contribute to the production of civil design plans, including site layouts, grading, utilities, and roadway designs.
  • Assist in preparing permit applications and supporting documentation for regulatory approvals.
  • Participate in field visits and construction site observations to gain exposure to construction processes and project implementation.
  • Support modeling efforts for water, sewer, and stormwater systems and assist with associated technical reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and team members to support project delivery and timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in civil engineering design or a related role.
  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) certification (passed FE exam), preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, including preparation of site plans, grading plans, and utility layouts.
  • Basic understanding of grading, drainage, and utility design principles.
  • Familiarity with GIS software (such as ArcGIS/ArcPro) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (3 or fewer demerit points).
