Job description

Proof of the Pudding (POP) is proud to provide the food and beverage services at Georgia International Convention Center. POP offers fine-quality concessions and catering for meetings, exhibit hall booths, conventions, and special events. Georgia International Convention Center includes a 9,800 sq. ft. state-of-the-art culinary arts center and Georgia's largest ballroom at 40,000 sq. ft.  

Join our reputable banquet team as a Banquet Captain! We are seeking knowledgeable, well-organized, and professional Banquet Captains to provide our customers with a first-class experience. Banquet Captains will be a point person of leadership on the event floor to the client and the POP team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the setting of tables completely according to diagram and/or sample table.
  • Managing time effectively.
  • Delegating tasks to the banquet team
  • Managing the team that is scheduled to run each event.
  • Assist Banquet Manager in scheduling to the needs of the business several months in advance and also for last minute “pop-up” events. Additionally, assisting the banquet manager with hiring.
  • Communicating with serving, bartending and culinary staff to ensure all scheduled staff is trained and prepared for event.
  • Conducting pre-shift meetings and managing the team of staff that is scheduled to run each event.
  • Responsible for setting buffet stations which may include décor.
  • Responsible for managing inventory of equipment and assisting with the set up and breakdown of events
  • Serve and clear food and beverage quietly, professionally, and quickly, using proper serving and clearing techniques.
  • Keep work area clean, and coordinate actions with the banquet team members, and all other members of the front and back of the house to ensure flawless customer service.
  • Maintain good grooming and personal hygiene.
  • Reporting to the Banquet Manager and preforming any tasks assigned in order to execute a flawless event.
  • Working “offsite” events at our other locations: Buford Community Center, Chastain Park Amphitheater, Etc.

Performs other related duties as needed.

Education, Specialized Knowledge, and Experience:

In order to narrow down our search and applicant pool, we are requiring that ALL candidates meet the following necessary qualifications in order to apply:

  • 1+ year in a banquet or Front of House leadership role
    • Experience in high volume catering is preferred
  • Must be a highly organized.
  • Must be a great leader
  • Must be friendly with a customer service mentality.
  • Must be a phenomenal team player.
  • Must have impeccable integrity for the business, the community and the Proof of the Pudding team.

Work Environment 

This position will consist of event attendance, preparation, set up, and breakdown. This position will work mostly out of and mainly stay within the Gas South District Convention Center but may travel to other venues within the Gas South Region.

Adherence to Company Uniform Requirements outlined in the Associate Handbook, uniform requirements outlined in your orientation guidelines.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, moving through an event space, and traveling from venue to venue
  • Bending, lifting, scooping, and carrying miscellaneous equipment and food items
  • Ability to perform physical tasks; such as but not limited to, lifting approx. 30 lbs.

Position Salary & Benefits:

  • This is considered a part-time hourly position with a starting range of $18-$22/hour.
  • Schedules may be flexible as business demands.
