Job description

Marketing and Communications Coordinator

The SPCA Westchester is looking for a creative storyteller who combines marketing expertise with strong photography and digital content creation skills to capture the heart of our organization and inspire our community to adopt, donate, volunteer, and advocate for animals in need.

This position is ideal for a mission driven marketing professional who enjoys storytelling, digital marketing, community engagement, and event promotion. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will work collaboratively with our team to create engaging content that inspires adopters and supporters while advancing the mission of the SPCA Westchester.

Responsibilities

Marketing & Brand Communications

  • Implement marketing initiatives that promote SPCA Westchester's mission, adoptable animals, programs, services, campaigns, and community events.
  • Create engaging written and visual content for both digital and print communications and animal adoption promotion.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication platforms.
  • Assist in executing the organization's annual marketing and communications plan.
  • Serve as an SPCA ambassador by assisting media and supporters, leading tours, answering questions, and engaging comfortably with the public at events.

Social Media & Digital Marketing

  • Manage the organization's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Next Door, YouTube and other appropriate channels.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly social media content calendar and e-newsletter.
  • Create compelling content highlighting adoptable animals, success stories, fundraising campaigns, volunteer opportunities, and community impact.
  • Capture photography and short-form video content throughout the rescue center, veterinary clinic, and community events.
  • Monitor engagement and identify opportunities to increase audience engagement.
  • Promote adoptable animals, events, volunteer opportunities, and donation campaigns.

Fundraising & Event Support

  • Assist in planning and marketing fundraising events, adoption events, educational programs, and community outreach activities.
  • Develop promotional materials and event communications.
  • Assist with donor recognition efforts and impact storytelling.

Community Engagement

  • Build relationships with local businesses, media outlets, schools, community organizations, and corporate partners.
  • Represent SPCA Westchester at community events, adoption events, and fundraising activities as needed.
  • Help increase community awareness of SPCA Westchester's programs and services.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain organized marketing files, digital assets, adoption promotions and photography libraries.
  • Coordinate vendor relationships related to printing, promotional materials, and marketing services.
  • Support additional marketing and communications projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in social media, marketing, communications, public relations, or nonprofit marketing preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple social media platforms.
  • Experience creating content for both print and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Strong storytelling and content creation abilities.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the mission of SPCA Westchester.

Work Schedule

This position is primarily scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. However, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator is expected to occasionally attend fundraising events, community outreach activities, organizational events, and other special events as needed, typically one to two times per month. These events may occur during evenings or weekends. In accordance with organizational policy, eligible time worked outside the regular schedule will be offset with a comparable weekday off to support work-life balance.

Compensation $24 - $26/hour to commensurate with experience.
