Job Description
The Role
General Motors Creative Design is seeking highly creative designers specializing in either Exterior or Interior design to join the Advanced Concepts team. This studio leads early-stage architectural exploration and plays a critical role in shaping the future of GM vehicles. Designers work in a global, cross functional environment that blends transportation design, engineering, advanced technology, and emerging mobility insights. The work centers on next-generation concept development, brand-appropriate architecturalproportioning, and forward-looking design innovation across both interior and exterior domains. A portfolio submission is required for consideration.
What You'll Do
  • Create original vehicle design concepts through 2D sketching and translate them into 3D digital and clay models.
  • Collaborate closely with clay and CAS3D digitalsculpting teams to refine themes, maintain design intent, and guide 3D development.
  • Use AI and digital visualization tools, including Vizcom, to explore rapid ideation and accelerate design development.
  • Partner with engineering and packaging teams early in the process to define vehicle architecture, criteria, and customer-focused solutions.
  • Evaluate customer needs, pain points, and mobility trends to inform concept direction and proposal creation.
  • Create early physical prototypes such as seat bucks, lighting mockups, and other proof-of-concept models to validate design ideas.
  • Present design proposals and insights to leadership clearly and professionally, integrating feedback into iterative updates.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of global automotive, technology, and material trends and apply them to future design direction.
  • Support cross functional collaboration and provide design guidance when needed.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Design or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of professional post-internship experience in interior design, exterior design, automotive design, or related work.
  • Knowledge & experience of the entire vehicle development process.
  • Strong 3D digital modeling skills using tools such as Alias, SubD, Blender, Maya, VRED, or similar, with the ability to translate 2D concepts into compelling 3D form.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D communication tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Alias, Maya, animation tools, and AI tools such as Vizcom.
  • Strong drawing skills that demonstrate solid understanding of form, proportion, and visual communication.
  • Experience collaborating with clay and CAS 3D digital sculpting teams to refine design themes.
  • Ability to quickly & accurately translate 2D sketches into 3D scale & full-size models incorporating engineering criteria.
  • Experience working with engineering and packaging teams to define early architecture, criteria, and functional requirements.
  • Experience supporting early physical prototyping such as mockups, seating bucks, or lighting concepts.
  • Strong ability to research and interpret global automotive, material, and design trends and apply them to new concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A portfolio (online or private) that shows transportation design projects and demonstrates design excellence.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • 5+ years of experience in exterior or interior full vehicle design and development.
  • Ability to understand subsystem interactions and how they affect overall vehicle development.
  • Proven creative proficiency and the ability to communicate concepts digitally.
  • Strong visual storytelling and presentation skills with the ability to communicate design rationale to leadership or executive audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with an OEM or automotive supplier.
  • Experience collaborating closely with clay sculpting, CAS, and model shop teams.
