  • At the Texas Immersive Institute (TXI), we provide access to emerging technology and research to design for artists, scientists, and humanists who use storytelling to share solutions to big problems that are responsive, responsible, and remarkable. Our goal is to be a leading voice in the future of communication and media through applied creative and research projects using a mixture of live communication methods and emerging technologies.

Purpose:
  • Texas Immersive Institute is seeking a motivated and creative Graduate Assistant to support the lab, the planning and execution of our annual Social Impact BuildFest, and the research and submission of our lab work to festivals and awards.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of the annual Social Impact BuildFest, a student-centered event focused on accessible technology and creating for social impact, with the help of our curated playbook.
  • Develop and manage an event timeline, including key milestones, logistics and communication plans.
  • Recruit and onboard student participants through outreach across departments, student organizations, and social channels.
  • Identify, invite and coordinate social impact mentors who will guide student teams during the event.
  • Recruit and manage a panel of judges with relevant expertise in social impact, design and immersive experiences.
  • Facilitate event programming including briefings, workshops, judging sessions, and closing ceremonies.
  • Coordinate with IXA representatives and Jackson Alexander regarding the tech sponsor and plan and Jordan Prather for the communications design and scheduling.
  • Produce a comprehensive post-event report documenting participation data, outcomes, feedback, and recommendations for future iterations
  • Research relevant awards programs, immersive festivals, innovation competitions, and showcases to which lab work and student projects may be submitted.
  • Prepare and coordinate submission materials including written descriptions, supporting media, and required documentation.
  • Maintain a master submission tracker with deadlines, status, contacts, and outcomes to ensure all entries are submitted on time.
  • Coordinate with TXI staff to request needed materials in a timely manner.
  • Follow up on submission results and archive outcomes for institutional reporting.
  • Maintain a regular, visible presence in the TXI Lab to support student engagement and day-to-day operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact and community-builder within the lab environment

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Texas, Austin.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience planning or supporting events, programs, or community initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple work-streams simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background or interest in social innovation and immersive media
  • Familiarity with immersive technologies
  • Experience with community outreach and recruitment
  • Leadership skills

Pay Rate:
  • $25/hour

Scheduled Weekly Hours:
  • 10-12 hours/week
