AltaGas - Advisor, External Communications

Reporting to the Manager, External Communications, Corporate & Midstream, the Advisor, External Communications plays an important role in supporting external communications across AltaGas' corporate and midstream business units. You'll partner with internal clients across the organization to develop and deliver clear, compelling communications that support business priorities, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and protect and enhance AltaGas' reputation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants exposure to a broad range of communications activities, including media relations, executive communications, social media and issues management.

What You'll Do

  • Lead day-to-day media relations activities, including building and maintaining relationships with reporters and responding to media inquiries

  • Support issues management and crisis communications, including rapid response and coordination across internal teams

  • Develop and execute social media content aligned with corporate and project priorities

  • Create clear, consistent key messages and communications materials for external audiences

  • Support business functions with external communications needs, including project updates and stakeholder-facing materials

  • Draft executive communications, including speaking notes, remarks, and briefing materials

  • Provide on-site communications support for executives at conferences, events, and media engagements

  • Collaborate with Creative Services to develop high-quality communications assets

  • Travel periodically within Canada and the United States to support conferences, events, and business priorities

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field

  • Experience in the energy, infrastructure, or regulated sectors is preferred. Midstream experience is considered a strong asset

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, accessible language

  • Proven ability to manage multiple internal clients and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive issues and reputational risk

  • Experience supporting executive communications and high-profile engagements

  • Agency experience, experience supporting issues management in complex environments, and ICS training are assets
