A typical day for a CART professional often involves providing live transcription services in settings such as classrooms, conferences, legal proceedings, or meetings, either onsite or remotely. You’ll prepare for assignments by reviewing topic materials and technical vocabulary, set up transcription equipment, and deliver real-time text output to clients via digital platforms. Collaboration with event organizers, educators, or legal professionals to ensure accurate context is common, and flexibility is needed to handle sudden schedule changes or technical challenges. This role frequently requires independent work but also involves close interaction with clients to tailor services to individual needs.

To thrive in Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART), a professional must have excellent listening skills, fast and accurate typing abilities, and a strong command of the English language, often supported by specialized training in court reporting or captioning.
