Job description

THE POSITION The PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee role with the Department of Transportation offers a chance to learn valuable skills while supporting safe travel across your community. This position allows you to grow your abilities in operating heavy equipment and working as part of a focused, hardworking team in Bucks County. You will help keep Pennsylvania's roads safe and reliable while building a strong foundation for your future.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position is a six-month training role that prepares you to operate transportation equipment and complete maintenance tasks that support safe and efficient roadway operations.

The role builds your skills in equipment use, safety procedures, and work site readiness. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Licensing Training: Receive training that builds the skills needed to operate trucks and front-end loaders Equipment Operation: Use vehicle controls, seat belts, and tire chains to support safe work on road crews Manual Tasks: Perform physical tasks using tools such as shovels, rakes, chain saws, compressors, and jack hammers Safety Awareness: Follow safety rules, report injuries and equipment issues, and help reduce risks on the work site Environmental Practices: Support environmental goals by meeting training requirements and following program guidelines Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements: You must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent. All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work. All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
