Job description

THE POSITION Start your path toward a rewarding career as a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee with the Clinton County Maintenance Organization. This position helps you gain the training, knowledge, and field experience needed for future advancement. You will support road maintenance projects that keep Pennsylvania travelers safe.

Be part of a team that encourages learning and supports your success. Check out this video for more information. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this trainee position, you will develop the skills needed to operate equipment and support maintenance work on highways and bridges.

It will provide you with hands-on training, safety instruction, and experience with essential tools and procedures. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Training: Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and required construction equipment Tool Use: Use motorized and non-motorized hand tools to complete maintenance tasks Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and report incidents immediately Field Tasks: Assist with manual labor such as cutting brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing roadway features Maintenance Checks: Perform pre and post operation inspections and make basic field adjustments Workplace Readiness: Develop familiarity with work rules, reporting procedures, and environmental requirements Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule is subject to change based on weather/season Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent. This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work. This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.

This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission. Additional Requirements: You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements: A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
