Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Endoscopy Center RN, you will provide specialized nursing care and critical support throughout endoscopic procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. Every day you will expertly assess patients pre-procedure, assist physicians during endoscopy, monitor vital signs and sedation levels, and meticulously provide post-procedure care and education, maintaining a sterile and efficient environment. To be successful, you will demonstrate outstanding clinical skills, strong attention to detail, and a calm, compassionate demeanor, contributing significantly to successful diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for our patients.

  • Delivers professional nursing care to endoscopy center patients during all phases of care; adheres to all applicable policies and procedures, including safety, risk management, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepares patients for endoscopic procedure:
    • Performs pre-procedure assessment and gathers data relevant to patient procedure to include, review pre-procedure patient information, history, medications, and allergies.
  • Plans care appropriately based on needs identified during initial and on-going assessments.
  • Addresses more complex, urgent, or emergent situations and escalated from other endoscopy center staff.
  • Performs point of care testing (CLIA-Waived Tests only) following established protocols/instructions.
  • Inserts peripheral intravenous catheter per established protocol.
  • Administer pre-procedure medications as ordered by physician; documents medication administration per established procedures.
  • Provides care to the patient and assistance to the physician during the endoscopic procedure:
    • Assists in preparing the procedure room prior to each procedure, including general cleaning, room turn-over, and restocking of supplies.
    • Determines availability of all necessary equipment and supplies; procures unanticipated items needed for team members during the procedure.
    • Serves as an integral member of the time out process and is directly responsible for completing the pre-procedure checklist.
    • Documents procedure and interactions in patient's electronic medical record in accordance with established procedures.
    • Assures accurate labeling and ordering of pathology specimens obtained during the procedure.
  • Provides care to the patient during the post-procedure/recovery phase:
    • Monitors patient and records vital signs, level of consciousness, and pain level during recovery.
    • Alerts physician of patient's status and any adverse events.
    • Determines patient appropriateness for discharge from recovery.
    • Provides discharge education to patient and family/caregiver; provides education regarding results, findings, and diagnoses within scope of practice.
  • Identifies opportunities for, and participates in, performance/quality improvement activities to improve endoscopy center outcomes, healthcare delivery systems, and address patient safety/satisfaction and cost containment.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing and one year of recent related work experience in an acute care setting (i.e. Med/Surg, ICU, PCU, PACU strongly preferred), upon hire or
  • new graduate with completion of a senior practicum in a specialty area (e.g., critical care, ED, PACU, or GI), upon hire
  • Registered Nurse: WA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 30 Days
