Medical Surgical Neuro Preceptor RN I

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Nurse Preceptor (RN), you will be a pivotal healthcare professional, delivering compassionate, high-quality care that truly impacts our patients' well-being and recovery. Every day, you will leverage your expertise to provide individualized, comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and meticulously implementing patient care plans. You'll collaborate seamlessly within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to a dynamic environment focused on optimal patient outcomes. To thrive in this vital role, The Preceptor RN I serves as an informal clinical leader and expert, pivotal in the onboarding and professional development of new nurses across the healthcare team. Beyond traditional precepting, this role demands a proactive approach, mentoring and guiding preceptees, fellow preceptors, interim staff, and other unit members. This position provides comprehensive orientation, advanced clinical supervision, and mentorship to elevate the team's overall performance.

  • Leads comprehensive orientation for new hire nurses, covering unit protocols, technologies, and best practices.
  • Models exemplary clinical skills, facilitating skill development and providing constructive feedback to preceptees.
  • Acts as a primary resource and mentor for preceptees, fellow preceptors, and other healthcare team members.
  • Ensures patient and orientee safety, fostering a supportive learning environment with appropriate oversight.
  • Collaborates with leadership to monitor orientee progress and performance, providing timely updates.
  • Continuously evaluates orientee competence for job readiness, guiding their development toward clinical excellence

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an RN nursing program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required upon hire.
  • 1-3 years of practicing RN experience required, with a minimum of 18 months of total RN experience.
  • Minimum of 6 months of previous precepting experience required.
  • Successful satisfactory evaluations from previous orientees/students.
