Job description

Are you ready to lead the technical vision for one of the nation's premier media companies? Scripps is seeking an experienced Director, Engineering - Networks to oversee our cutting-edge broadcast infrastructure in Atlanta. This is your opportunity to lead a talented team of engineering specialists while shaping the future of our technical operations across studio equipment, post-production facilities, video file storage, satellite earth stations, and critical power protection systems.
In this role, you'll combine deep technical expertise in IP networks and television operations with strategic leadership to drive innovation and excellence. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Work closely with senior leadership to provide the engineering vision and technical leadership for Scripps Networks, including planning, design, acquisition, and integration
  • Oversee all aspects of the engineering organization, including planning, optimization, upgrade, and maintenance
  • Work collaboratively with peers in other locations to share common infrastructure and functional capabilities
  • Provide leadership, management, and motivation for the engineering team
  • Provide direction to teams in developing plans and schedules, setting priorities and resolving issues to meet department goals
  • Administer personnel functions by maintaining attendance records, approving PTO and other excused absences, time sheets and training, conducting interviews and hiring and developing staff, executing performance evaluation program, performing salary administration, and preparing staff plans to meet department goals
  • Administer departmental fiscal responsibilities by approving travel, training, capital expenditures, operating expenses, and other expenditures, performing salary administration, and preparing and monitoring the budget
  • Perform hands-on engineering support as needed, such as Encoder/Multiplexer programming and broadcast studio infrastructure
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Ability to plan projects from start to completion
  • Able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Ability to make quick decisions in crisis situations
  • Possess an understanding of live and post-production technology, file storage, and signal transmission via IP and satellite, and master control technology
