Market Risk Reporting Analyst
Position Summary
The Market Risk Analyst is responsible for identifying, measuring, monitoring, and communicating the risks associated with energy trading and commercial portfolios. This role provides independent oversight of physical and financial commodity positions through risk measurement, valuation review, stress testing, and portfolio analysis. The analyst will partner with Trading, Commercial Operations, Valuation, Accounting, and Credit Risk teams to ensure risks are understood, quantified, and managed within approved limits.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex risk concepts to a broad range of stakeholders and provide actionable insights that support sound business decisions.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze daily market risk exposures across physical and financial commodity portfolios.
  • Perform portfolio risk measurement and reporting, including VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, and other key risk metrics.
  • Assess the risk profile of new transactions, structured deals, and hedging strategies.
  • Investigate unusual P&L movements and explain portfolio performance drivers.
  • Support independent valuation reviews and pricing validation of commodity transactions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly risk reports for management and leadership.
  • Identify emerging risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with Trading, Commercial Operations, Accounting, and Valuation teams to improve transparency and risk management practices.
  • Develop and enhance quantitative models, reporting tools, and automated processes.
  • Participate in risk committee, governance, and audit-related activities.
  • Assist with ETRM implementations, reporting enhancements, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the end-to-end trade confirmation process for physical and financial commodity transactions, including confirmation generation, validation, discrepancy resolution, and timely execution with counterparties.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate trade confirmation workflows, enhance operational controls, and develop reporting to monitor confirmation status, aging, and process performance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Energy Management, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in market risk, trading risk, quantitative analysis, energy markets, or related functions.
  • Knowledge of commodity markets, risk measurement techniques, and portfolio analytics.
  • Experience with VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, and market risk reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience working with large datasets and reporting tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in power, natural gas, environmental, or energy trading markets.
  • Knowledge of valuation methodologies and derivative products.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems
  • Understanding of hedging strategies and portfolio optimization concepts.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $73,700.00 to $104,633.00 per year
