Job description

Marrad is hiring a Fractional Controller to support to financial operations of one or more of our divisions. This role reports directly to company leadership and would provide insights and analysis to the entire leadership team. The role is controllership, not strategic finance: no capital planning, financing, or investor and board relations. This is a hands-on, independent role for someone comfortable managing the full accounting cycle across multiple divisions with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Own month-end close, with financials finalized by day 10 of the following month.
  • Manage QuickBooks Online.
  • Apply ASC 606 principal-versus-agent judgment to revenue recognition. Marrad's revenue model involves commodity sales and customer revenue share and rebate arrangements tied to material pricing, and determining gross versus net revenue treatment is a recurring GAAP judgment call.
  • Reconcile operational data, including tonnage, commodity pricing, and contract terms, from the company's proprietary operations platform into QuickBooks Online. This is a core, ongoing controllership function.
  • Calculate and validate customer rebate and revenue share payouts under commodity sales contracts, separate from general AR and AP.
  • Oversee AR and AP, including intercompany billing and vendor payments to haulers and processors.
  • Monitor cash flow.
  • Support the building of the annual budget and track budget versus actual performance.
  • Deliver financial reporting to the leadership team on a regular cadence.
  • Coordinate sales tax and 1099 compliance with outside tax preparers.
  • Support audit, tax, and compliance requests as needed.
