Job Description

Job Summary:

The Sr. Buyer is responsible for commodities or assignments requiring application of basic purchasing principles, theories, and concepts. The Sr. Buyer ensures timely purchase of products or services from known sources of supply. Additionally, the Sr. Buyer may resolve issues in the areas of PO accuracy and completeness, on-time delivery or supplier payment. The Sr. Buyer will be required to manipulate data in various systems to determine the most favorable terms for BD Parata. The Sr. Buyer also helps to qualify vendors, evaluate bids, and negotiate prices and terms while working closely with Engineering, Finance, Planning, Quality, Production, Warehouse and Commodity Managers to ensure the optimized flow of purchased components in keeping with BD Parata's business objectives. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, communication, and a willingness to work in a collaborative team environment are skills that will support a high level of success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate procurement of commodities and/or services by accurately balancing considerations of price, quality, service, delivery, payment terms, and commercial situations

  • Investigate and propose supplier solutions based on requirements from divisions within the company

  • Source materials and maintain information in the MRP system regarding lead time, pricing, ordering policy and vendor material numbers

  • Place orders based on scheduled requirements and supervise quality and delivery

  • Maintain a general knowledge of technical requirements involved with assignments/commodities including UL requirements related to product

  • Support management objectives by running KPI's and supplier scorecards

  • Manage MRP exception reports, follow-up resolution with external departments and/or supplier to accurate Accounts Payable invoice issues

  • Coordinate engineering change order (ECO) information with the Procurement and Engineering teams to support any updates during the product lifecycle

  • Analyze performance metrics to identify efficiency and savings opportunities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in supply Chain, Business, communications or related field PLUS 4 yrs of buying experience in a manufacturing industry.

  • OR

  • High School Diploma / GED PLUS 5-7 yrs of buyer experience in a manufacturing industry.

  • Experience with MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) and supply chain management software and tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to use logic and problem-solving skills to independently isolate and find opportunities in reporting/analysis

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work across a variety of departments and external suppliers.

  • Self-starter, organized, and motivated teammate

  • Confirmed analysis and presentation skills with common tools such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with MS - Great Plans (ERP system)

  • APICS/ASCM certification

  • Advanced Excel skills including use of pivot tables and functions/concepts

  • Knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma fundamentals.
