Job description

When you join Verizon
You want more out of a career. A place to share your ideas freely - even if they're daring or different. Where the true you can learn, grow, and thrive. At Verizon, we power and empower how people live, work and play by connecting them to what brings them joy. We do what we love - driving innovation, creativity, and impact in the world. Our V Team is a community of people who anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together - lifting our communities and building trust in how we show up, everywhere & always. Want in? Join the #VTeamLife.
What you'll be doing...
We're looking for a highly analytical, data-driven engineering leader to join our Central Engineering team. Driving continuous improvement is what we are all about and you will help us by providing telecommunication processes and complex technical support for our network engineering and operations organization. As one of our foremost domain authorities, you will define our strategy and lead the development and implementation of internal process and standardization initiatives to make us better.
In this fast-paced, highly visible national role, you will be the engine behind our network capital efficiency and hardware standardization strategies. Working closely with cross-functional partners across Sourcing, Supply Chain, and regional Engineering teams, you will mandate and enforce minimum viable product (MVP) standard designs across our national footprint. You will not just manage processes; you will drive broad efficiency and innovation, owning the technical logic that powers our automated engineering systems (Fuze) to systematically prevent capital leakage.
In this senior role, you will develop resolutions to complex problems that require the use of creativity and make decisions that impact projects and staff members. Exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Cell Site Design & MVP Standards: Governing and updating national network directives and standardized modular cell site designs. Leveraging your deep wireless network understanding to establish and maintain the definitive cost baseline for all standard configurations.
  • RFP Strategy & TCO Modeling: Driving extensive technical and financial evaluation for major vendor RFPs (cabinets, backup power generators, macro antennas, routers) to ensure optimized capital allocation and precise Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Subject Matter Expertise & Equipment Gatekeeping: Serving as the strategic authority for physical cell site architecture, with a deep understanding of Power, Space, and Cooling rules.
  • System Automation & Tool Logic: Applying your technical expertise to govern enterprise automation platforms (including Fuze and Bill of Materials generation), ensuring physical design parameters translate flawlessly into automated, rules-based ordering logic.
  • Efficiency & Power Optimization: Developing and executing forward-looking network efficiency strategies, leveraging data to optimize backup power deployments, reducing physical footprints, and eliminating redundant site equipment.
  • KPI Tracking & Executive Reporting: Building and managing dashboards to track national compliance and capital avoidance metrics. Distilling complex engineering data into clear, actionable presentations for senior leadership.
  • Vendor & Project Leadership: Leading performance meetings with vendor, planning and maintenance engineering. Creating detailed project plans and providing input to project status updates with teams across several organizations and direct resources ensuring timetables are met.
  • Platform Evolution & Troubleshooting: Developing engineering and implementation guidelines and provide direction for platform evolution including virtualized implementation of network elements. Performing expert-level troubleshooting and debugging of both network and application system issues.

What we're looking for...
You're a technical expert who takes full ownership of ambiguous problems and believes that proven, quantitative data must back every critical hardware decision. You excel at partnering with diverse stakeholders and have a rare hybrid skillset-just as comfortable debating RF parameters and power rules as you are building multi-million-dollar TCO models or mapping out rules-based logic within a production environment.
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Experience in Wireless Infrastructure Engineering, Sourcing, Technical Consulting, or Supply Chain at a national or large-regional scale.
  • Deep understanding of wireless network architecture, physical cell site design, and telecommunications hardware.
  • Proven experience conducting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis and translating technical specifications into automated, rules-based logical models.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • A degree in computer science, computer engineering, or engineering.
  • Planning, architecture, product development, or program management experience.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to act independently, assess risk, and make calculated decisions.
  • Program and project management skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in cellular power systems, rectifiers, space/cooling requirements, and backup battery technologies.
  • Direct experience managing automated ERP systems, enterprise BOM generation, or the Fuze platform.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (GCP/BigQuery) and building analytics dashboards (Looker, Tableau, or Qlik).

Where you'll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.
Scheduled Weekly Hours
40
