GEMCO operates coast to coast, holding engineering and construction registrations, licenses, and certifications in more than 30 states.

Position Summary

The Traveling HVAC Startup Foreman oversees the supervision, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial mechanical systems nationwide. This role ensures HVAC and control systems are installed, tested, and operating in compliance with project specifications, building codes, and client expectations. The Foreman provides field leadership, mentors technicians and apprentices, and works closely with project managers and engineers to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality projects.

This is a 100% travel, field-based role with work across the United States. Typical rotation is 17 days in the field followed by 4 days at home.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Commission, start up, and verify operation of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including refrigeration systems, air handling units, controls, heat pumps, boilers, chillers, VAV systems, rooftop units, humidifiers, exhaust fans, and steam systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC and control systems to ensure reliable, efficient operation.
  • Install and pressure test refrigeration piping systems and verify all connections meet project specifications.
  • Complete and submit startup, commissioning, and service documentation accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate work with other trades and departments to maintain schedules and avoid conflicts.
  • Provide on-site supervision, training, and technical guidance to technicians and apprentices.
  • Monitor job progress and communicate updates to project managers and leadership.
  • Enforce company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free job site.
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients and deliver professional, customer-focused service.
  • Support additional project and company needs as required.

 Traits/Competencies

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC/refrigeration service experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
  • Universal or Type II/III EPA Refrigeration Certification required.
  • Ability to analyze issues, troubleshoot systems, assist with repair planning, and support quoting.
  • Dependable, decisive, safety-focused, and adaptable to changing job conditions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Neat appearance and pride in quality workmanship.
  • Drug-free with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
