Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
About the Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys designing, developing, and supporting industrial power distribution systems for manufacturing, automation, and commercial facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power systems, electrical design, and field implementation while working alongside project managers, field electricians, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop industrial electrical power distribution systems from concept through commissioning.
  • Prepare electrical construction packages, including one-line diagrams, panel schedules, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and installation details.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, arc flash coordination, and equipment sizing.
  • Specify transformers, switchgear, MCCs, panelboards, UPS systems, generators, VFDs, and protective devices.
  • Develop electrical distribution solutions for new installations, facility expansions, and modernization projects.
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineers, controls engineers, project managers, field electricians, and customers throughout project execution.
  • Review customer specifications and ensure designs comply with project requirements.
  • Support installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field modifications as needed.
  • Assist with project estimating, equipment selection, vendor coordination, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and applicable local electrical codes.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide engineering support during construction and startup.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience designing industrial electrical power distribution systems.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution
    • Switchgear and switchboards
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Transformers
    • Protective relays
    • Power quality
    • Grounding systems
  • Experience performing electrical calculations and power system analysis.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and industrial electrical standards.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar electrical design software.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support projects in manufacturing and industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.
  • Experience with SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar power system analysis software.
  • Experience supporting automotive, manufacturing, automation, or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled industrial systems and automation integration.
  • Field commissioning and startup experience.
  • Experience with backup power systems, generators, and UPS installations.
