Job description

MCR Safety Group, a division of Bunzl, is seeking a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is part of our Finance team responsible for account analysis, analysis and preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations, analysis of financial results and balances, and identifying and implementing needed process improvements.  Additional responsibilities include expense variance reviews, building financial modeling and templates, and assisting the Controller in the budget process. This position will partner with departments throughout the organization to improve processes and accounting accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the month-end close process, including preparation of reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and related journal entries
  • Perform monthly P&L analysis to ensure results are aligned with targets, identify opportunities to reduce variances, and work with team members across the organization to develop actions to close any gaps
  • Analyze Balance Sheet variances to prior periods to confirm variances are reasonable; identify action items as needed
  • Improve existing processes related to calculation of commission and rebate accruals and payments and develop models to calculate same; ensure completeness of rebate and commission contract records
  • Determine needed process improvements and work with teams to implement same
  • Develop SOPs to document accounting procedures
  • Work with Controller in budget preparation and analysis, including analysis of accounts to predict net revenues, margin, op costs, and PBIT; develop budgets by cost center, working with owners to understand historical and planned spend
  • Prepare periodic and ad-hoc corporate financial submissions and reporting
  • Develop additional reporting as needed by the business to provide insight and create action plans to improve results. 
  • Build strong partnerships within Finance and other functional areas to foster a collaborative network and gain an understanding of pain points and cost drivers
  • Work with warehouse and IT to review annual fixed asset audit, match to records, and identify adjustments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting and finance. 5+ years prior experience with ERP systems.  SAP, HFM, TM1, and Power BI preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business strategies.
  • Advanced level Excel skills with experience in large spreadsheets. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility and creativity 
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; effectively communicate both orally and in written form with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues
  • High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external customers
  • Strong leadership and customer service skills with the ability to ensure that a high level of service and quality is maintained
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments
