What is the difference between Commission Realtor vs Real Estate Agent?

AspectCommission RealtorReal Estate Agent
CredentialsReal estate license, brokerage affiliation, optional certificationsReal estate license, brokerage affiliation
Work EnvironmentIndependent or with brokerages, flexible hoursTypically employed by brokerages, structured hours
Employer & Industry UsageWorks independently or as part of a brokerage, common in real estate salesEmployed by brokerages, involved in property transactions

Commission Realtors and Real Estate Agents both require a real estate license and work within the real estate industry. The main difference is that Commission Realtors often operate independently and may have additional certifications, while Real Estate Agents are usually employed by brokerages with more structured roles. Both roles focus on property sales and transactions, but the Commission Realtor title emphasizes a commission-based, independent approach.

What commission do most commission realtors make?

Most commission realtors earn a commission of 5% to 6% of the property's sale price, which is typically split between the buyer's and seller's agents. The commission is often negotiable and can vary based on the market, agency policies, and the agent's experience. Realtors usually receive their earnings after the sale is completed and the commission is paid by the seller.

Job description

EIGHT PILLARS BROKERAGE & ADVISORY NOW HIRING

New Real Estate Agent — Residential, Luxury & Investment Properties
Full-Time Commission-Based South Florida

What You’ll Do
  • Learn the fundamentals of commercial, luxury, and investment real estate through a structured 30/60/90-day onboarding curriculum.
  • Work real leads generated through our IDX website and CRM — not just cold-call your way to a first deal.
  • Sit in weekly one-on-one sessions with Broker Debora Rodrigues for deal strategy, pricing, and negotiation prep.
  • Build your professional network with curated introductions to attorneys, lenders, appraisers, and other partners.
What Eight Pillars Offers You
  • Direct Broker mentorship — Debora co-attends your first three client presentations or negotiations so you’re never navigating a big moment alone.
  • Monthly training on various subjects that will add fundamentals to your business and the area you are farming.
  • A free onboarding kit: your first box of branded business cards, a personal bio and listings page on our IDX website, and a name tag — at no cost.
  • In-house marketing technology: branded templates, a monthly content calendar, and a quarterly professional photo/video day, so your marketing looks established from day one.
  • Continued education and farm-area support to help you build a territory and a specialty as your book grows.
Who We’re Looking For
  • An active or in-progress Florida real estate license.
  • A genuine interest in commercial, luxury, or investment property — curiosity about the numbers, not just the listings.
  • A coachable mindset and a willingness to put in the work during the first 90 days of ramp-up.
