How you'll contribute
A Junior Painter/Maintenance Mechanic Technician who excels in this role:
  • Performs skilled painting and finishing work throughout the hospital and associated facilities to maintain a safe, functional, and aesthetically appropriate healthcare environment.
  • Supports general maintenance activities including minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and assistance with facility operations as needed.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements including those set forth by accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission.

Painting & Finishing (Primary Function):
  • Prepares surfaces for painting including patching, sanding, caulking, and priming.
  • Applies paints, coatings, and finishes to walls, ceilings, doors, frames, and other surfaces.
  • Matches existing colors and finishes to maintain facility standards.
  • Repairs drywall, plaster, and wall imperfections.
  • Maintains clean and safe work areas, especially in patient care environments.
  • Coordinates work to minimize disruption to patients, staff, and visitors.

General Maintenance Support:
  • Assists with minor repairs in plumbing, carpentry, doors/hardware, and basic electrical tasks.
  • Supports preventative maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Responds to work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assists other trades (HVAC, electrical, etc.) as needed for departmental efficiency.
  • Helps with furniture moves, room turnovers, and departmental projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Facilities.

Safety & Compliance:
  • Follows all infection control protocols (ICRA), including proper containment and dust control.
  • Adheres to life safety standards, including maintaining fire/smoke barrier integrity.
  • Utilizes proper PPE and maintain compliance with OSHA and hospital safety policies.
  • Identifies and report safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Supports Environment of Care (EOC) standards and readiness.

Documentation & Communication:
  • Accurately documents work performed in the digital work order system.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Provides clear updates on work status, delays, or material needs.

Schedule: PRN (As Needed):
This position does not have a set weekly schedule. You'll be called in to work when extra help is needed-such as covering for someone, handling busy periods, or filling gaps in the schedule. Hours can vary from week to week, and there's no guaranteed hours.
What we're looking for
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of professional painting experience preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare or commercial environment preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance trades preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and tools.
  • Ability to perform drywall repair and surface preparation.
  • Basic understanding of building systems and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on ladders and lifts.
  • Ability to work in various environments including patient care areas.

Work Environment:
  • Hospital and outpatient clinical settings.
  • Exposure to typical maintenance conditions including dust, odors, and noise.
  • Must be able to work around patients and staff with professionalism and discretion.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • May occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, or respond to urgent needs on an as-needed basis.
  • Participation in emergency response (e.g., disaster response, utility failures) may be required.
