The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Cargo Parachute Repairer, WG-3105-07, to work with the 97th Logistic Readiness Squadron, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. The primary purpose of this position is to provide all necessary repairs and fabrications to parachutes and other related Airdrop equipment.
This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Salary Rate is $28.06- 32.74 an hour based on experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Modifies, repairs, and makes replacement parts for standard-type particles such as parachutes, aerial delivery items, another item for moderate complexity utilizing various sewing machines and other entities.
- Lays out patterns with several pieces that must be matched; cuts out parts from single or multiple layers of material; and makes adjustments to assemble articles to assure desired fit.
- Operates, cleans and performs operator maintenance on lightweight, medium, and heavy-duty sewing machines.
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
- Knowledge of a variety of materials including most regularly used fabrics and materials such as wool, nylon, canvas, leather, vinyl, fiberglass, rubberized cloth, various threads, tapes, lines, and hardware.
- Knowledge of arithmetic and fractions to calculate pattern measurements (e.g., cover measurements plus allowances for seams and pleats).
- Skill to lay patterns with a number of pieces that must be matched; cut out parts from single or multiple layers of material; make adjustments to assemble articles to assure desired fit; determine necessary alterations; and make extensive alterations and repairs.
- Ability to interpret patterns, drawings, and easily understand blueprints; determine the amount of fabric needed from patterns and samples, or by following dimensions in instructions and allowing for shrinkage and stitching.
- Ability to operate and clean and perform operator maintenance on lightweight, medium, and heavy-duty sewing machines.
