Job Description

ABOUT OATH: The City of New York's Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is the nation's largest administrative tribunal, holding more than 250,000 trials and hearings a year. As the City's central, independent administrative law court, OATH adjudicates a wide range of matters filed by nearly every city agency, board, and commission. OATH also houses the Center for Creative Conflict Resolution which provides mediation and restorative justice support to City government agencies and the general public, and the Administrative Judicial Institute, a resource center that provides training, continuing education, research and support services for administrative law judges and hearing officers. JOB DESCRIPTION: The OATH Hearings Division seeks to hire a Community Associate to assist with the processing of cases and motions for the Hearings Division, including but not limited to evaluating correspondence submitted by respondents and representatives regarding defaults, motions to vacate defaults and requests for hearings by mail and online submission, entering and retrieving data using spreadsheets, electronic databases and case management systems, reviewing electronic case information for accuracy and updating the information, if necessary, responding to public and intra-agency inquires via telephone and email, and assisting with special projects as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements 1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Preferred Skills

- Ability to work independently - Office experience - Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Excel - Good organizational and communication skills - History of volunteerism, such as service in the AmeriCorps or Peace Corps, is viewed favorably.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
