What is the difference between Commission Notary Signing Agent vs Loan Signing Agent?

Work EnvironmentMobile or office-based, flexible hoursMobile, often working with lenders or signing services
Employer & IndustryIndependent, signing services, title companiesIndependent, lenders, title companies, signing services

Both roles require notary commission and signing agent certification, and they often overlap in duties. A Commission Notary Signing Agent primarily acts as an independent notary who specializes in loan signings, working with various clients. The main difference is that a Loan Signing Agent specifically focuses on loan document signings, often within the mortgage industry. While their responsibilities are similar, the term 'Loan Signing Agent' emphasizes the loan-specific aspect of the role.

Do notary signing agents make good money?

Notary signing agents can earn varying income depending on the number of signings they complete, their experience, and the fees they charge per appointment. Typically, they earn between $75 and $200 per signing, with some agents making additional income through multiple signings daily. Income potential increases with certification, marketing, and building a client base, but it often depends on local demand and individual effort.

How long does it take to be a commission notary signing agent?

Becoming a commission notary signing agent typically involves completing a state-specific application, passing a background check, and attending a training or certification course, which can take from a few days to several weeks depending on the state's requirements. Afterward, you must obtain a notary commission and may need to complete additional training related to loan document signing procedures before starting work.

How to find work as a commission notary signing agent?

To find work as a commission notary signing agent, you should obtain the necessary certification and commission, then join signing agent directories or platforms that connect notaries with loan signing opportunities. Building a professional profile, marketing your services locally, and establishing relationships with title companies and lenders can also help secure assignments.
