Job description

Position Purpose:
The Non-CDL Driver at SRS Building Products ensures safe, accurate, and timely delivery of building materials to job sites, with a focus on contractors. This role supports branch operations, verifies order accuracy, performs vehicle inspections, and upholds safety standards while providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe and timely delivery of building materials to job sites, adhering strictly to company safety protocols and route plans to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any maintenance needs to uphold the highest standards of safety and vehicle operability.
  • Accurately verify and manage inventory, including loading and unloading materials, to guarantee correct delivery quantities and prevent damage during transit.
  • Utilize equipment such as forklifts safely and effectively for loading and unloading processes, optimizing the workflow and maintaining material integrity.
  • Engage professionally and constructively with customers on-site to deliver exemplary service, addressing any queries or concerns with courtesy and efficiency.
  • Maintain regular communication with managers and team members to ensure seamless delivery operations and resolve any logistical challenges promptly.
  • Adhere to all corporate and regulatory safety standards, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of safety within and outside the branch environment.
  • Document delivery processes meticulously, including capturing photographic evidence of deliveries, to support transparent and accountable branch operations.

Direct Manager Direct Reports:
A non-CDL Driver generally reports to the Assistant Branch Manager or Operations Manager and does not typically have any direct reports.

Physical Requirements:
This role demands physical fitness to help load, unload goods, and be able to sit for a long duration while driving. Team members must be able to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 100 pounds consistently. This position requires the ability to engage in repetitive tasks involving the handling, loading, and unloading of materials such as shingles and other building products. Drivers must maintain the ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely under a range of weather conditions, including inclement scenarios. Exposure to elevated noise levels from both the vehicle operation and worksite environments should be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old (18 minimum for employment).
  • Valid non-CDL driver's license with a clean record (no DUIs in 3 years, no suspensions in 5 years, max 2 violations/accidents in 18 months).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify required).
  • Screenings: Must pass a drug test, background check, and hold a current DOT medical card (for vehicles 10,001 lbs+).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Delivery driving experience with knowledge of DOT regulations.

Certifications:
  • Possession of a DOT Medical Certificate is mandatory for operating trucks registered at 10,001 lbs. or more.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Preferred: Forklift certification, demonstrating competence in safe and efficient forklift operation.

  • Provides exemplary customer service with a focus on addressing customer needs promptly and courteously to maintain positive customer relationships and repeat business.
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve delivery challenges effectively, ensuring timely and accurate job site deliveries.
  • Maintains the physical ability to lift and move heavy materials consistently, ensuring efficient loading and unloading processes without compromising personal or product safety.
  • Demonstrates reliability in attendance and punctuality, as well as the ability to manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules and assist with branch operations as required.

The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $20.00 to $24.00 per hour. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits. Hourly associates may be eligible for overtime based on business needs. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance-based bonus programs, commissions, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
