Brief Job Description:
Under the general direction of the web services director, works as part of the web services team to perform complex web design, development, deployment, and maintenance activities in the Drupal web content management system. Determines functional, technical and support requirements for the development, operation, and maintenance of Drupal websites. Implements web security measures, module, theme and Drupal core updates for internal and external websites. Evaluates code to ensure it is valid, properly structured, meets industry standards, meets state and federal accessibility rules, and is compatible with multiple browsers, devices, and operating systems. Interacts and communicates with the agency's information management team or hosting agency to address hardware, software or security issues impacting websites. May train and supervise the work of contractors, volunteers, and unit web developer staff. Performs related work as assigned.
Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
This position is a fully remote position for candidates living in Texas. Telework schedules are subject to change based on agency policy or operational needs.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Performs complex web development work using Drupal, HTML5, Twig, Github and Github Actions Workflows, JavaScript, SQL, Lando/Docker and other related technologies. Responsible for website development and design projects that require coordination, planning and scheduling. Prepares preliminary analysis, design plans, user requirements, and project schedules and timelines. (45%)
Oversees the maintenance and security of all websites through monitoring Drupal.org issue queues and executing timely Drupal core or module updates and patches. Tests and deploys code on cloud environments. Debugs site issues as they occur. (25%)
Researches, installs, configures, and maintains modules and custom front-end solutions that add various site features and functionality such as improving user experience, site performance, security, and developer workflow. (15%)
Coordinates projects and tasks with other team staff, vendors, IT contacts, and content owners, as needed. Ensures the preparation of system-level documentation for use by staff and system users. Keeps team and staff updated on issues and progress. Uses experience and sound judgement to identify emerging tools and products that support reliability, security, and performance. (15%)
Manages multiple projects simultaneously meeting deadlines. Provides timely communications to internal team and content owners to meet/exceed expectations. Works well under pressure and is highly organized. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Two years of knowledge and experience configuring, developing, integrating, and maintaining complex Drupal 9/10/11 sites, modules, and themes. Good working knowledge of federal accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1). Strong experience with software version control (preferably Git) with experience in information architecture, user interface design, and system documentation (preferably Confluence). Experience with modern workflows/CI, including Lando and Github Actions. Additional experience must include: custom theming, module development and configuration, creating and applying patches and updates, and troubleshooting code conflicts.
Preferred knowledge and experience with multilingual Drupal sites, CDN (Akamai), cloud hosting services (Acquia), React, TypeScript, Storybook and Webpack, JIRA, HTML/HTML5, PhP, JavaScript, SQL and CSS/SASS.
Skilled at prioritizing tasks, meeting aggressive deadlines, and working collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to coordinate and solve complex problems and manage multiple projects.
