What is the 70/30 rule in interior design?

The 70/30 rule in interior design, relevant to interior design architects, suggests that 70% of a space should be neutral or subdued tones, while 30% can feature accent colors or bold elements. This balance helps create visually appealing and harmonious environments, often used when selecting color schemes and furnishings in design projects.

What is the 3-5-7 rule in interior design?

The 3-5-7 rule in interior design is a guideline for creating balanced and harmonious spaces by grouping objects or furniture in odd numbers—typically three, five, or seven—since odd groupings are more visually appealing. Interior designers and architects often use this rule to arrange decor, artwork, or furniture to achieve a pleasing aesthetic and proper scale within a room.

What is the average commission for an interior designer?

For a commission interior design architect, the typical commission rate ranges from 10% to 20% of the total project cost. The exact percentage can vary based on project scope, complexity, and client agreement, with larger projects often having lower rates. Some interior designers also charge hourly fees or flat rates depending on the services provided.

Who gets paid more, architects or interior designers?

Architects generally earn higher salaries than interior designers due to their extensive education, licensing requirements, and broader scope of work. Interior designers often have lower barriers to entry but can increase earnings with experience, specialization, or working on high-end projects.
