Outside Sales Representative – Building Materials & Contractor Sales

Company: Nyhof / Neuens Lumber

Location: Fredonia, WI

Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay: Base salary $80,000-$120,000 plus commission / performance-based earning opportunities

Project Scope: Building materials, lumberyard, contractor sales, and residential construction supply

Licenses / Certifications: None required

The Opportunity

Nyhof is looking for an experienced Outside Sales Representative to help grow our building materials and lumberyard customer base in Southeast Wisconsin.

This is a relationship-driven sales role for someone who already understands the construction, lumberyard, or building materials industry and can confidently work with builders, contractors, remodelers, homeowners, and trade professionals. You will represent a full-service lumberyard offering windows, doors, lumber, siding, shingles, roofing materials, and other residential construction products.

This role is a strong fit for a seasoned sales professional who knows how to build trust, generate new business, manage customer relationships, and bring industry experience to the table from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and grow relationships with builders, contractors, remodelers, homeowners, and construction professionals.
  • Generate new business through outside sales activity, jobsite visits, contractor outreach, networking, referrals, events, and local market prospecting.
  • Sell a full range of building materials, including lumber, windows, doors, siding, shingles, roofing materials, and related construction products.
  • Maintain and grow existing accounts while actively pursuing new customer relationships.
  • Visit jobsites, builder offices, contractor shops, and customer locations to identify sales opportunities.
  • Prepare estimates, quotes, product recommendations, and follow-up communication for customers.
  • Partner with inside sales, yard, delivery, and operations teams to ensure customer orders are accurate and fulfilled properly.
  • Track customer activity, opportunities, follow-ups, and sales progress using internal systems.
  • Represent Nyhof professionally in the market and help strengthen long-term customer loyalty.
  • Stay informed on building materials, product availability, customer needs, and local construction activity.

What We’re Looking For

  • Required Qualifications
  • Experience in outside sales, contractor sales, building materials sales, lumberyard sales, construction supply, or a closely related industry.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction materials, contractor needs, and jobsite sales.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with builders, contractors, remodelers, and trade customers.
  • Proven ability to prospect, generate leads, follow up, and close business.
  • Self-starter who can manage a territory and work independently without heavy day-to-day supervision.
  • Strong communication, follow-through, and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable spending most of the week in the field meeting customers and developing business.
  • Ability to work with internal teams to coordinate quotes, orders, deliveries, and customer expectations.
  • Reliable, professional, organized, and motivated to grow sales.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Existing relationships with builders, contractors, remodelers, or construction professionals in Southeast Wisconsin.
  • Prior experience working for a lumberyard, building supply company, contractor supplier, window/door supplier, roofing/siding supplier, or similar business.
  • Experience selling multiple product categories, such as lumber, windows, doors, siding, roofing, shingles, and exterior products.
  • Ability to bring or develop a strong customer base.
  • Experience with estimating, quoting, takeoffs, product recommendations, and account management.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, CRM tools, or customer tracking systems.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary plus commission / performance-based earning opportunities.
  • Strong earning potential for an experienced building materials sales professional.
  • Bi-weekly pay.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Life and disability insurance options.
  • Paid time off, including holidays, vacation, and sick time.
  • Training on company products, internal systems, and sales process.
  • Opportunity to help grow a key part of the business during an exciting brand transition.
