Job description

Controller, Hutch Auto Group
Group-Level Role
The Controller serves as Hutch Auto Group's group-level owner of accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls across all three rooftops: Chevy GMC, Ford, and CDJR. This role replaces the current model of three independently run, store-level accounting functions with a single centralized structure: one Controller, one Office Manager, and single dedicated roles for payables, receivables, and titling beneath the Office Manager. The Controller is directly accountable for the accuracy, timeliness, and comparability of financial reporting across the group, for closing existing gaps in journal usage, warranty processing, and expense allocation, and for establishing one standardized, GAAP-compliant accounting process that all three stores follow. Prior experience managing a centralized, multi-rooftop accounting operation for a dealer group is required.

  • Serve as the single financial and accounting authority across Chevy GMC, Ford, and CDJR, standardizing journal usage, chart of accounts, and DMS configuration group-wide.
  • Prepare complete, accurate monthly financial statements for each rooftop within manufacturer format and timing requirements; drive consistent month-end close by the 10th across all three stores.
  • Own daily bank reconciliation, cash management, and floor plan payable/payoff oversight for the group.
  • Directly supervise the Office Manager, who oversees Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting Clerk, Title Clerk, and Warranty Administrator, ensuring one clear line of accountability for each function.
  • Calculate and verify commission, bonus, and technician flat-rate pay across all three rooftops.
  • Implement a standardized warranty processing procedure requiring signed contract verification prior to any payment, and oversee resolution of aged or duplicate warranty items.
  • Establish and enforce a consistent, documented policy for allocating shared cross-store expenses (e.g., digital advertising).
  • Hold General Managers accountable for delivering complete, billable, and title-ready deal jackets to accounting on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate the annual audit (or review) and physical inventory across all three rooftops.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable government finance, payroll tax, and regulatory filing requirements.
  • Lead cross-training of accounting staff across rooftops to support coverage, consistency, and bench strength.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience managing centralized or multi-rooftop accounting operations for a dealer group — this is a firm requirement, not a preference.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Physical RequirementsAbility to sit or stand for extended periods and to use standard office equipment (computer, phone, calculator) for the majority of the workday.
