What is a commission estimator?

A Commission Estimator is a professional who calculates and prepares cost estimates for products, projects, or services that are typically sold on a commission basis. They analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates. Their work helps companies determine pricing, project feasibility, and bid competitiveness. Commission Estimators often collaborate closely with sales teams, project managers, and clients to ensure all requirements are met and pricing is accurate. This role is common in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and sales where commissions are a significant part of compensation.

How does a commission estimator typically collaborate with sales and project management teams?

Commission Estimators work closely with both sales and project management teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids. They review project specifications and requirements received from sales, clarify any ambiguities, and develop detailed cost estimates. Throughout the project lifecycle, Commission Estimators often participate in meetings to discuss scope changes, provide technical input, and ensure all teams are aligned on pricing and deliverables. This collaboration is key to winning contracts and delivering projects that meet client expectations and company profitability goals.

This is a great fit for someone who understands the fabrication/machining process inside and out and wants a role that goes beyond a desk job.

  • Review job requirements and determine materials, labor, and time needed for projects
  • Coordinate and assign daily and weekly tasks to shop employees

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience directing or coordinating employee tasks

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
