Job description

Support Center - Irving
We are currently recruiting for a Customs Classification Specialist located at our Support Center (Global Headquarters) in Irving, TX. This role will determine and oversee Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification compliance in accordance with US and Canada import regulations for over $1B of merchandise imported annually. The Customs Compliance Specialist interprets dynamically changing requirements of US and Canada Partner Government Agencies requirements including USDA, FDA, F&W, CPSC, EPA, CFIA, NRCAN, Health Canada.
Major Activities
  • Research new and upcoming antidumping and countervailling cases to mitigate unnecessary additional duty spend.
  • Provide internal import compliance tariff engineering and duty guidance to Michaels Merchandising and Sourcing teams.
  • Write and request Binding Rulings from US Customs and/or CBSA as required.
  • Develop, update, and deploy classification basics training to internal cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate sku and classification data for Order Manager and the US and Canada Customs brokers.
  • Sku classifications, duty & tariff determination, and PGA/OGA requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional team classification and duty guidance.
  • Advise teams on antidumping, countervailing research and mitigation.
  • Research binding rulings and tariff engineering.
  • Participate in ongoing training and reporting.

Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education
  • High school diploma

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills
  • Excel basics (vlookup, pivot, standard formulas).
  • US Customs Broker license training.

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires
  • 3 years Customs clearance entry writing experience and/or USHTS classification experience.
  • Previous on the job training in a Customs brokerage or import compliance role.

Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Special Certifications or Technical Skills
  • US Customs Broker license or CCS certification.
