Job description

General Summary General Summary: The Community Park Facility Attendant is usually assigned specifically to one BREC community park ensuring the facility conditions provide an opportunity for a positive experience. This person is a resource of information for the public to answer questions regarding park facts, rules, rentals, and the park system. He/she will provide onsite presence as patrolling the site regularly.

Work also involves the operation of a variety of light to specialized equipment performing needed custodial and maintenance services such as cleaning restrooms, and site furnishings picking up litter; maintain/inspect playgrounds; mow; trim; prune; water and weed. May assist other departments in posting reservation notices at various facilities. Requirements and Job Specifications Education Required: High school graduation or equivalent.

Preferred:Vocational diploma or Associate Degree Area of Study (major) Preferred: Horticulture, agronomy, park operations, sports turf maintenance, or related field License(s) Required: Valid LA Class E Drivers License Years Relevant Work Experience Required: 2 Years relevant work experience performing repair and maintenance work. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Preferred:5 or more years of related experience in a public outdoor/recreation setting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic principles, practices, equipment, tools, and materials as they relate to the general custodial and maintenance of parks and facilities related to assigned area.

Strong interpersonal skills and positive image required to project positive image for BREC and the Community Park Skill in the operation of hand tools & variety of commercial type equipment involved in grounds maintenance Strong interpersonal skills are required. Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skills Mechanical aptitude is required. Ability to read and write the English language and relay to public information about BREC's programs and facilities Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities Ability to perform manual and skilled labor in various weather conditions Ability to work well with minimal supervision Ability to lift 100 lbs., occasionally Ability to follow simple oral & written instructions Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public Ability to project a positive image to the public for BREC

Functions and Duties Essential Functions and Duties: Communicates information to the public about BREC programs, facilities, rules, athletic fields, and park amenities. Maintains and updates informational boards, kiosks, and post reservation signs for public. Inspects and patrols parks, recognizes and responds to needed maintenance and patron's needs.

Insures safety of site by removing hazards and communicating with supervisor, Park Rangers, and/or law enforcement authorities as needed regarding unsafe situations and or conditions. Keeps site clean at all times with experience performing repair and maintenance work in public outdoor/recreational setting. Ability to prioritize, inspect work, organize with other workers, and communicate with supervisor regarding needed maintenance and or supplies.

Performs all functions of grounds maintenance (mowing, edging, blowing, weed eating, trash removal, restroom cleaning, and all other duties as assigned.) Operates commercial type riding mowers, utility vehicles, trailers, pressure washers, trimmers, blowers, and other related grounds maintenance equipment to maintain parks. Cleans, maintains, prepares equipment for operations. (Washes, sweeps, fuels, lubricates, preventative maintenance, etc.) Inspects, repairs, and maintains records Maintains playground equipment Maintains and prepares ballfields for practice and games

Cuts tree limbs, prunes shrubs, maintains landscape beds, lake maintenance May occasionally perform maintenance from a boat Operates a variety of machinery (see equipment) Other duties as assigned. Supplemental Information Hours Worked: Will vary as site work load requires, but generally a 40-hour week of rotating days based on the season; lunch break daily; overtime as required.
