The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

To provide timely, comprehensive, and evidence-based nutritional care and education to patients with eating disorders and their families, in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. Participate in the training of medical staff, dietetic interns and peers. Does so in a manner which is highly responsive to patients’ unique psychological and medical needs of eating disorder patients, promoting and supporting the highest quality nutritional care across all levels of treatment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide ongoing nutritional assessment, monitoring, evaluation, and education to patients with eating disorders and their families, in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans for patients across the lifecycle, from adolescents to adults, as assigned. Integrate evidence-based research in the education, practice, and management of eating disorder patients, including medical complications related to malnutrition and refeeding.

  • Effectively communicate nutrition plans and rationale to team members both verbally and in the medical record. Demonstrate the ability to utilize various HIPAA secure patient communication modalities such as “Zoom”, “My Chart”, etc.

  • Provide education on medical nutrition therapy for eating disorders, including topics such as refeeding syndrome, electrolyte management, and food-drug interactions, to patients, families, and significant others. Ensure continuity of care when a patient transitions between inpatient, residential, and outpatient levels of care; develop specialized nutrition education materials for eating disorder recovery. Serve as a clinical preceptor to dietetic interns and provide didactic training to nutrition students, peers (journal club), and other medical professionals (including medical students, psychiatric residents, fellows, and attendings). Participate in orienting, training, and in-servicing professional and other nutrition staff. Maintain expertise by pursuing continuing education in eating disorder treatment and related medical nutrition therapy.

  • Participate in adolescent medicine rounds and interdisciplinary rounds on a frequent basis and act as a consultant/resource to all members of the health care team. Serve as liaison/ambassador between patients/units and foodservice staff to ensure therapeutic meal plans are implemented accurately.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities related to eating disorder treatment. Serve on committees for department and hospital initiatives, including those focused on behavioral health and nutrition. Represent the department at community eating disorder awareness and nutrition functions. Attend regular department staff meetings as scheduled.

  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition Service or equivalent, completion of one-year dietetic internship experience or equivalent required.

  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred

  • Clinical nutrition experience in a health care setting preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and effectively in a busy, multi-disciplinary medical practice setting, able to prioritize workload and multi-task with accuracy and efficiency required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Registered or registry-eligible by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required
