Job description

At Heartland Bank, we believe protecting our customers is just as important as serving them. This role is part of the Risk Management team and reports through the Deputy Compliance Officer. You’ll work closely with Fraud Operations, Anti-money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), Compliance, Information Technology, Application Support, Deposit Services, Money Desk, Contact Center, Line of Business leaders and the Business Transformation Office to strengthen fraud controls, streamline processes for fraud detection and recovery, improve detection accuracy, reduce financial losses, and protect customers.

What You’ll Do:

Day in the Life - You'll spend your day monitoring fraud and AML/CFT detection systems, analyzing transaction patterns and alert activity, and identifying opportunities to improve how we detect and respond to risk. One moment you may be reviewing trends in debit card, ACH, wire, or online banking activity; the next, you could be partnering with Technology or Application Support to troubleshoot a system issue, fine-tune detection rules, or validate a system enhancement. You'll help develop reports and dashboards, document system changes, and provide analysis that supports audits, regulatory reviews, and ongoing risk management efforts.

You'll also stay on top of emerging fraud schemes, payment-channel risks, and regulatory changes, using those insights to recommend improvements to fraud detection strategies and system capabilities. Collaboration is a big part of this role/You'll partner with teams across the bank to strengthen fraud prevention while also working with vendors on system upgrades, release testing, access reviews, data quality validation, and business continuity planning. As part of maintaining effective monitoring systems, you'll coordinate model validation activities, including documentation, data validation, control reviews, issue tracking, and remediation follow-up. If you enjoy solving complex problems, using data to drive better decisions, and continuously improving how technology helps protect customers, you'll thrive in this role.
