Commission Automation Control information

What is the difference between Commission Automation Control vs Commission Technician?

AspectCommission Automation ControlCommission Technician
CredentialsTypically requires technical certifications in automation, control systems, or PLC programmingRequires technical certifications or licenses related to electrical or mechanical systems
Work EnvironmentWorks in industrial settings, manufacturing plants, or automation facilitiesWorks in similar environments, often performing installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting
Industry UsageCommonly employed in automation, manufacturing, and industrial sectorsUsed across similar industries for installation and repair of automation equipment
Job FocusDesign, programming, and control of automation systemsInstallation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation equipment

While both roles operate within automation environments, Commission Automation Control specialists focus on programming and controlling automation systems, whereas Commission Technicians primarily handle installation and maintenance tasks. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in automation industries.

Do automation engineers make good money?

Automation engineers, including those specializing in control systems, typically earn competitive salaries that vary by experience, location, and industry. They often require knowledge of programming, control systems, and tools like PLCs and SCADA, which can influence earning potential. Overall, automation engineering is considered a well-paying field with opportunities for growth.

What jobs are becoming more automated?

Jobs involving repetitive tasks and routine processes, such as manufacturing, data entry, and basic administrative roles, are increasingly automated through robotics, AI, and machine learning technologies. Roles that require manual labor or simple decision-making are most susceptible to automation, while jobs requiring complex problem-solving and emotional intelligence are less affected.

What is commissioning in automation?

Commissioning in automation involves testing, configuring, and starting up control systems and equipment to ensure they operate according to design specifications. For a Commission Automation Control professional, it includes verifying system functionality, calibrating devices, and documenting performance to ensure reliable operation before full deployment.

What types of jobs pay commission?

Commission-based jobs are common in sales roles such as real estate agents, insurance agents, car salespeople, and retail sales associates. These positions often pay a base salary plus a percentage of sales or deals closed, incentivizing performance. Skills in negotiation, product knowledge, and customer service are important in these roles.

Our unique set of capabilities lend themselves to highly complex systems and products, and we offer customers a range of services including product and systems design, automation, fabrication, assembly, and large volume contract manufacturing. Our customers span a wide array of industries including aerospace, defense, mobility, healthcare, pharma, biotech, clean tech, chemicals, energy, lifestyle, food production, and industrial equipment.

Who we are looking for

We're looking for an R&D Machine and Controls Engineer who can do it all-design machinery, wire it up, and program it to work. This is a combination role for someone who moves fast, thinks creatively, and works across mechanical, electrical, and controls without getting stuck in silos.

You'll work on custom automation systems, R&D prototypes, experimental equipment, and new manufacturing processes. If you like building complete solutions from concept to commission, this is for you.

What you will get to do!
  • Design and modify machine components, assemblies, and systems
  • Program and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, robotics, motor controls, sensors, HMIs, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Rapidly prototype and test new machines and control strategies
  • Work across mechanical design, electrical integration, and controls programming
  • Iterate quickly based on real-world testing and feedback
  • Collaborate closely with machine designers, fabricators, and management across the team
  • Build and commission complete systems-from mechanical design through controls startup
  • Solve complex problems that span disciplines
What you bring to the team
  • You haveย 5-10 years of experience building machinery-whether that's design, fabrication, controls, or a mix
  • You're comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines
  • You have hands-on PLC programming experience-but you're not stuck in old-school methods
  • You understand robotics, motor controls, sensors, HMIs, pneumatics, hydraulics, and large industrial systems
  • You can design or modify machine components and then make them work with controls
  • You learn fast, adapt quickly, and don't need everything figured out before you start
  • You like building, testing, breaking, and improving
  • You're open to unconventional solutions and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Non-traditional backgrounds welcome if you have the right skills and mindset
  • You enjoy working in an R&D environment where experimentation and iteration are part of the process
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industrial robotics experience
  • Robotics programming and integration
  • Experience with multiple PLC platforms
  • Vision systems integration and programming
  • Servo and motion control systems
  • Background in automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, or other relevant industries
Additional Details

The base salary range for this position is $91,000 - $136,000 per year. This range represents the Company's good faith estimate of the base compensation for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for annual incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives, subject to Company plans. The Company offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and other benefits.

Work Week is onsite Monday - Friday
