Job Title: Technical Project Manager IV — Pharmacy/Laboratory Relocation and Application Activation

Hourly/Salary Compensation Range: $99-119/hour pay rate

Location: South San Francisco, CA — Hybrid; onsite at 369 Oyster Point approximately 1–2 days per week as required

Hours: Monday–Friday, day shift, with flexibility based on project requirements

Client Overview

UCSF Health is undertaking a highly visible, enterprise-wide initiative to centralize laboratory and pharmacy-related operations at its new Oyster Point facility. The project includes technology implementation, Epic application activities, laboratory systems integration, equipment and automation coordination, workflow redesign, operational readiness, regulatory compliance, organizational change management, and transition planning.

Job Description

The Technical Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the UCSF Health Central Pharmacy and laboratory relocation and activation project.

The Project Manager will manage complex cross-functional activities involving:

• Laboratory and pharmacy operations
• Epic Beaker and Willow applications
• Application build, implementation, optimization, and testing
• Laboratory information systems
• Equipment and automation integration
• IT infrastructure and networking
• Workflow redesign
• Operational readiness
• Regulatory and compliance requirements
• Organizational change management
• Vendor coordination
• Transition and go-live planning

The role will partner with executive leadership, laboratory and pharmacy operations, clinical stakeholders, Health IT teams, technical teams, and external vendors. The Project Manager will be responsible for project governance, schedule and budget management, risk mitigation, stakeholder engagement, resource coordination, and successful transition to the centralized operating environment.

This position requires an application and technology project manager, not a construction project manager or physical relocation-only manager.

Key Responsibilities Advanced Project Management — 40%

• Manage highly complex technology projects using advanced project management methodologies.
• Establish project scope, requirements, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and success criteria.
• Analyze and resolve complex project issues.
• Apply IT policies, procedures, and project management best practices.
• Develop recommendations and solutions for project-related challenges.
• Track project budgets, schedules, risks, issues, metrics, resources, and deliverables.
• Develop contingency and recovery plans when projects experience delivery, financial, or resource risks.

Project Delivery Leadership — 40%

• Implement project management processes across clinical, operational, technical, and vendor teams.
• Initiate, design, and lead project proposals and execution plans.
• Develop project reporting, governance, and communication plans.
• Coordinate stakeholders and resources to achieve project objectives.
• Drive Epic and other technology initiative delivery.
• Support application build, integration, testing, implementation, optimization, and activation activities.
• Coordinate operational readiness, transition planning, and go-live preparation.
• Ensure project activities align with UCSF Health business and technology strategy.

Program and Team Leadership — 20%

• Maintain overall responsibility for project outcomes.
• Assemble, coordinate, and lead project teams.
• Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and resource strategies.
• Monitor project budgets, timelines, milestones, and performance.
• Oversee vendor management and risk mitigation.
• Facilitate alignment among executives, operational teams, clinical stakeholders, and technical groups.
• Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and recommendations to senior leadership and external partners.
• Resolve ambiguous cross-functional challenges involving competing priorities and limited resources.
• Recommend prioritization and governance actions for enterprise initiatives.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

• PMP certification from PMI
• Epic certification in one or more clinical or revenue cycle applications
• Epic Beaker and/or Willow certification, if applicable

• Strong executive, vendor, operational, and technical stakeholder management skills
• Experience managing budgets, timelines, risks, resources, and enterprise governance
• Availability for a hybrid schedule at UCSF’s Oyster Point location
• W2 availability at the $99-119/hour pay rate
