Job description

This is a banking position

We are seeking an experienced Credit Underwriter to underwrite and analyze complex commercial credit requests across C&I, CRE, construction, and owner-occupied lending. This individual will prepare detailed credit presentations, assess risk, structure loan requests, and partner closely with Relationship Managers to support sound lending decisions while maintaining compliance with the bank's credit policy.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Underwrite complex commercial loan requests, primarily C&I and Commercial Real Estate (CRE).
  • Perform detailed financial statement, tax return, cash flow, and global cash flow analysis.
  • Prepare comprehensive Credit Approval Memorandums (CAMs) and credit presentations.
  • Evaluate loan structure, collateral, guarantor strength, and overall credit risk.
  • Recommend loan terms, covenants, risk ratings, and alternative credit structures when appropriate.
  • Analyze corporate and personal financial statements, tax returns, and borrower creditworthiness.
  • Conduct UCC searches, credit reports, bank/trade reference verification, and industry research.
  • Perform collateral analysis, including real estate appraisals, inventory, receivables, and other assets.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers and customers to discuss loan structures and financial trends.
  • Complete annual reviews for assigned commercial loan relationships.
  • Monitor covenant compliance, borrowing bases, and ongoing portfolio risk.
  • Participate in ACL analysis, credit stress testing, loan reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior Credit Analysts by reviewing credit presentations and underwriting work.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience within a bank.
  • Strong experience underwriting Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loans.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements, tax returns, global cash flow, and collateral.
  • Ability to independently prepare Credit Approval Memorandums (CAMs).
  • Experience with construction lending and complex commercial credit structures preferred.
  • Knowledge of loan structuring, covenants, risk ratings, and credit policy.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple underwriting requests in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience mentoring junior credit analysts is a plus.
